Terms of Service
Last updated: 20 June 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of CampWild (the "Service") — a free, community-built map of wild-camping spots, huts and shelters. The Service is operated by Alexey Ulyanov ("we", "us"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. ELIGIBILITY
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You must have the capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
2. YOUR ACCOUNT
Some features require an account, which you create by signing in with Google. You are responsible for the activity that happens through your account, and you agree to provide accurate information and not to impersonate anyone or create accounts for others. Accounts are for personal, non-commercial use. Tell us at support@campwild.org if you believe your account has been used without your permission. You can close your account at any time (see Privacy Policy for what happens to your data).
3. ACCEPTABLE USE
You agree not to, and not to help others, use the Service to:
- post content that is unlawful, false, misleading, defamatory, hateful, or that exploits or endangers minors;
- infringe anyone’s rights, including privacy, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights;
- harass, threaten, stalk or harm others, or promote discrimination;
- use the Service for advertising, spam, or other commercial purposes without our permission;
- scrape, crawl, or use automated means to harvest content or build a competing database;
- place an unreasonable load on, interfere with, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- upload viruses or other harmful code, or circumvent security or access controls;
- publish the precise location of sensitive sites, private property, or anything that would endanger people, wildlife or protected areas.
Wild camping is regulated differently from country to country. You are responsible for knowing and following local laws, landowner rules and the principles of leave-no-trace camping. A spot appearing on the map does not mean camping there is legal or safe.
4. YOUR CONTENT
"Your Content" is anything you submit — spots, photos, descriptions, comments and ratings. You keep ownership of Your Content, and you are responsible for it. You confirm that you own it or have the rights to share it, and that sharing it does not break the law or infringe anyone’s rights.
So that we can run and promote the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example resize or compress), translate, publish and display Your Content on and in connection with the Service, and to allow other users to view and share it through the Service. This licence lasts as long as your content remains on the Service and for a reasonable period afterwards to allow for backups and removal. We will not sell Your Content. Where you retain moral rights in Your Content, you do not waive them except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Your contributions are intended for public display: other users can see them along with your username and profile photo. Because the map is collaborative, others may build upon or edit spot information you add.
5. OUR CONTENT
The Service itself — its design, interfaces, code, logos and the compilation of contributions — is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute or create derivative works of it except as allowed by these Terms or by law. The map’s underlying geographic data and tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap and its contributors under their own licence.
6. ADVERTISING
The Service is free to use. We may in future display advertising or other notices alongside content. If we do, you are not entitled to any payment, and we will handle any related personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. MODERATION
We may review, edit, remove or restore content, and suspend or close accounts, where we reasonably believe it is necessary — for example to address content that breaks these Terms or the law, or to protect users, landowners, wildlife or the integrity of the map. Where reasonable, we will let you know.
8. PRIVACY
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect and how we use it. By using the Service you acknowledge that your data will be processed as described there, including processing in the EU and, for email delivery, transfers to providers outside the EEA under appropriate safeguards.
9. THIRD-PARTY LINKS AND SERVICES
The Service links to third-party sites and tools (for example Google Maps, OpenStreetMap and Komoot for directions). We do not control these and are not responsible for their content or availability. Your use of them is at your own risk and subject to their terms.
10. DISCLAIMERS
The Service is provided free of charge on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that spot information, locations, photos or other content are accurate, complete, lawful or safe to rely on, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Wild camping carries inherent risks; you use the Service and visit any location at your own risk. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
11. LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, or loss arising from your reliance on content or from your use of any location found through the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to €100. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
12. TERMINATION
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or where we reasonably need to. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Your Content licence, our content rights, disclaimers, liability and governing law) will continue to apply.
13. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA, you also keep the protection of any mandatory consumer-law provisions of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts. The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
14. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version always lives at this page, with the date above. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Service and, where appropriate, notify you by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
