Free camping is restricted, but a wide network of designated 'shelter' and primitive sites is available.

New shelters were set up at Esrum See in 2021. Apparently the shelters cannot be booked. First come first serve. All shelters have a bench in front and a fire place and access to the lake.
As far as I know, Glas- & Gulålen is the only double shelter on the lake.
