Wild camping generally needs the landowner's permission in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland is the exception (right to roam).
Informational only — always check current local rules and get landowner permission where needed.
At an altitude of 2,357 feet (718 m), Greg’s Hut is the highest bothy in England.
Located close to Cross Fell, the highest point in the Pennines, this free-to-use cottage is helpfully situated in a remote part of the hills prone to bad weather.
There are basic facilities at the bothy and it makes for a good place for a lunch break or emergency overnight stop. For more information, visit: gregshut.org.uk.

A major milestone: we've rebuilt Camp Wild from the ground up.
The whole site is now faster, lighter on mobile data, and works smoothly even on a weak signal out in the wild.
- The map loads thousands of spots without slowing down.
- Pages open instantly and use far less data.
- Every spot now has its own link, so sharing a place is easy.
- Map markers no longer duplicate or get stuck while panning and zooming.
- Coordinates read from a photo are now accurate, with a clear message when a photo has no location data.
- Sign-in, comments, and reports are more reliable.
We're continuing to polish the new experience. Spotted something off? Use the Report button on any spot — thank you for helping keep the map accurate.
