Jokamiehenoikeus (everyman's right) generally allows temporary camping on uncultivated land, a reasonable distance from homes.
Informational only — always check current local rules and get landowner permission where needed.
The hut is located on the summit of the wooded hill of Lattunavaara, which is situated on the northern side of the River Ylimmäinen Kivijoki (which empties its waters into River Kemijoki).
The hut is not maintained, which means eg. that no firewood is delivered. It's not allowed to make a fire in Lattunavaara open wilderness hut because the chimney is in poor condition and is not safe to use. Making a fire is also prohibited in the old, restored Lattunvaara fire guards hut.
Next to the open wilderness hut, there is a hut restored by the National Board of Antiquities. Formerly, both of these huts used to be fire guard's huts.
Pets are allowed in the hut, but only with the consent of the other users of the hut.
Hikers are asked to bring their own waste to one of the area's recycling points.

A major milestone: we've rebuilt Camp Wild from the ground up.
The whole site is now faster, lighter on mobile data, and works smoothly even on a weak signal out in the wild.
- The map loads thousands of spots without slowing down.
- Pages open instantly and use far less data.
- Every spot now has its own link, so sharing a place is easy.
- Map markers no longer duplicate or get stuck while panning and zooming.
- Coordinates read from a photo are now accurate, with a clear message when a photo has no location data.
- Sign-in, comments, and reports are more reliable.
We're continuing to polish the new experience. Spotted something off? Use the Report button on any spot — thank you for helping keep the map accurate.
